Saliva substitutes are products that contain physical and chemical properties similar to natural saliva. They can be applied throughout the entire mouth as often as needed for comfort, and soothes and relieves dry mouth.
Placing a humidifier in your room as you sleep can also assist with dry mouth.
Dry, cracked lips are also common in residents who are dehydrated, on medications or have nutritional deficiencies. Keep lips moist to allow comfort when eating and communications. Use lubricants that contain lipid hydrophobic bases that help prevent moisture loss and softens the skin.
