Dealing With Reduced Dexterity
As we get older, sometimes our ability to grip small handles, or properly maintain our own oral health becomes difficult. This can be particularly common with those suffering from arthritis, Alzheimer’s disease, Parkinson’s disease and many others. So finding ways to make it easier, or having trained staff in long-term care facilities to assist is very important.
Sometimes it can be as simple as putting a larger handle on a tooth brush, such as a tennis ball for easy holding. Find out more about cleaning aids on the oral care products & aids page.
The Brushing Up on Mouth Care Program has excellent training tools for facilities and their staff, as well as guides and ideas for how to make cleaning residents teeth easier. http://www.ahprc.dal.ca/projects/oral-care/
